![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Do you want to wake up to your favourite breakfast radio station or would a traditional bell get you out of bed quicker? Some alarm clocks have come into the 21st century with “Humane Waking Systems” – that’s where buzzers start off at a low volume and get louder. How to choose the best alarm clock for you What kind of alarm clock should I buy? And with only one job to do, you can be certain of one thing: these alarm clocks won’t let you sleep in when you need to be up and out. No matter what your sleeping habits are, there’s an alarm clock out there that will do the job for you. Some of them are designed to rouse heavy sleepers with the kind of racket that even the most loud-mouthed of smartphones would struggle to imitate, and others even claim to aid us in getting a better night’s rest. No longer is it good enough for them just to make a loud noise. In order to survive the smartphone revolution, alarm clocks have had to evolve. For anyone who’s ever found themselves let down by their mobile phone, however, or for those who want something a little more high tech, a dedicated alarm clock is a sound investment. Since the arrival of the smartphone, which has now become everyone’s constant companion, quite a few of us have long since chucked our old-school alarm clock across the bedroom directly into the bin. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. Some might argue that we really don’t need alarm clocks any more. If you really want a quick boot-camp themed alarm and can’t be bothered to set your own custom one, Army Alarm may be just right for you.Īrmy Alarm iPhone app requires iOS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. That being said, the actual app, while extremely basic, has a nice layout and a humorous, though limited, audio alarm. With the array of smartphones capable of playing custom alarm sounds, it will be tough to find takers for Army Alarm at $0.99. Quite frankly, it is hard to imagine buying an app just for the sake one new bedroom alarm noise or vocal. Be sure to tap the actual arrow and not the whole sound bar when trying to play the preview sounds for each alarm, or they won’t play. The app’s main icon stands out on the iOS menu screen and the layout is simple to figure out from the start. Graphics are fairly sharp in Army Alarm-with a camo background, cartoon drill sergeant and obvious navigational buttons. Army Alarm puts out a decent alarm, but with very limited audio files and other options. Why aren’t there a whole multitude of different angry drill sergeant vocals for different days, randomized, and so on? Why just three, for a paid app? Furthermore, there isn’t any nifty anti-snooze puzzle or combo to prevent the sleepy user from ignoring the snooze button and just hitting the dismiss button instead, thereby killing the audio totally. The actual vocals of the alarms are pretty good, although the first one is pretty repetitive. The only other main option in Army Alarm is Gift, which allows the user to purchase this app and send it to other iOS users should they be inclined to be so generous. Army Alarm also allows the user to preview each of the three audio files before setting the alarm. If the exhausted victim chooses to hit the snooze button, they’ll be subjected to yet another withering fusillade of insults, and even a third set if they dare ignore the drill sergeant again. Ever need a little extra “Umph” in the morning to get your tired self out of bed? Imagine replacing your conventional alarm with a screeching drill seargent! That’s the idea behind Army Alarm, a brand-new release from developer Silver Dragon Tech.Īrmy Alarm allows the user to set an alarm that will blare a boot-camp inspired blast of vocals at the unfortunate receiver. ![]()
